Berrien Dems MLK Day Open House

MLK Day Open House
Carry the Dream Forward
Justice doesn’t happen all at once—it moves forward because people show up.
Justice doesn’t happen all at once—it moves forward because people show up.
The Berrien County Democratic Party invites you to an inspiring, hands-on MLK Day Open House where we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy by doing what he called on all of us to do: show up, get involved, and carry the dream forward. Join us on Monday, January 19th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Berrien Dems Office (2517 Niles Ave, St. Joseph, MI).
This open-house style event is designed for people to come and go, bring their kids, meet neighbors, and connect the Civil Rights Movement to the work happening right now in Berrien County. Whether you’re a longtime supporter or stepping into our space for the first time, this afternoon is for you.
What’s Happening
Throughout the open house, families and community members of all ages can take part in hands-on activities designed to inspire creativity and conversation. Create a piece to add to the “I Have a Dream” wall. Explore our display connecting the Civil Rights Movement and the Voting Rights Act to today’s local organizing—and enjoy snacks, coffee, and hot chocolate along the way.
Stop by the Justice & Democracy Button Bar to design your own buttons featuring messages of justice, community, voting rights, and powerful MLK quotes—perfect to wear, share, and spark dialogue.
Capture the moment at the Mission Possible Photo Booth and add your voice to the Voices of the Community reflection station. These reflections help tell the story of why local action matters.
When you’re ready to turn inspiration into impact, visit the Take Action Station. Sign up to volunteer, register to vote or check your registration status, write postcards or letters to elected officials, and make thank-you cards for election workers—real steps you can take right then and there
Bring a non-perishable food donation for a local food pantry. While registration is not required, it is encouraged.
This MLK Day is about more than remembrance, it’s about responsibility. Dr. King believed in the power of ordinary people. That power lives here—in Berrien County. The arc of justice may be long, but it only bends when people take action. Join us as we carry the dream forward—together.
Come as you are. Stay as long as you like. Leave inspired—and ready to act.
